But what seems like a spoon full of sugar is often a tough pill to swallow when you consider regulatory requirements from agencies like the FDA for use of these networks. Adopting new technologies that allow employees to share information and exchange ideas with each other and with your customers is often the best way to achieve better business results, but doing so can involve considerable risk. That’s because the content people create using these technologies is subject to the scrutiny of regulators, legislators, and litigators. On top of that, increasing litigation has made it a business requirement to consider solutions that help bring down skyrocketing legal costs. The concept of integrated business planning — closing gaps in an organization’s various planning functions and aligning operations and strategy with its financial performance — has existed in various forms for decades. What has changed is creation of planning platforms that can handle the fluidity of data to erase silos and enterprise borders where once there were multiple geographies, departments, time zones, languages and currencies. All elements of business are managing the avalanche of information coming to them. Just like connecting disparate people, we also must connect data that resides in various systems, applications and tools.

In 2000, ICEE began to scrutinize the inefficiencies they found in the ICEE machine repair process. With so many field technicians servicing so many machines, streamlining the process would be no small feat. The company's existing paper-based system required that field technicians fill out paper work orders at the end of each job. One copy was given to the customer, one was filed at the regional office, and another was sent to headquarters in Ontario. This left a long, inefficient and error-prone paper trail.

Maintaining business continuity is your highest priority. In today’s commercial landscape, business continuity depends on the efficient, uninterrupted flow of data across the organization – from operations to sales to fulfillment. Even a brief lapse in workload continuity can mean thousands of lost sales opportunities, disruption to production, and compromised customer trust. The causes of those lapses can range from natural disasters to mechanical failure or human error. You need a data platform and a proactive disaster recovery (DR) strategy that will help you stay up and running in the event that your physical infrastructure is unavailable for any length of time. BUSINESS CONTINUITY Fulfilling orders, providing a high level of customer service, and keeping consumers engaged all depend on the efficient, uninterrupted flow of data throughout your organization. CUSTOMER TRUST Above all, protecting customer data—especially personally identifiable information (PII) —is critical

The quick-service restaurant industry continues to be a favorite among consumers who look to the sector for a wide variety of food served quickly and at a low price. The speed and efficiency of QSRs, which include the emergent “fast casual” restaurants, match today’s on-the-go lifestyle of consumers across all ages who often are too busy to cook at home. That said, consumers expect their dining experience at a QSR to be comfortable with conveniences ranging from WiFi connectivity to ordering kiosks and dining area entertainment on large screens or even tableside tablets. They expect the information on menu boards to be accurate and up-to-date and their meal orders to be fulfilled quickly and accurately. Technology is a major enabler in meeting consumers’ expectations while simultaneously helping QSR locations increase operational efficiencies and quality of service.

Retail has been transformed by technology in multiple ways, from the way customers interact with retailers to how products are offered and acquired. Indeed, the entire shopping experience has been redefined and expanded to enable customers to purchase products anytime, anywhere, with any device, from any number of retailers. Consumers’ changing shopping behaviors and their reliance on technology enables retailers to reach a wider swath of potential buyers, moving well beyond the borders of their physical store locations to new geographies and populations. That said, retailers must understand how to use technology effectively to draw in customers and entice them to purchase, as well as help them improve their operations and enable new, innovative ways to keep customers coming back.
