With the current state of the economy, IT executives are being asked to stretch their budgets in order to keep their businesses profitable. In 2008, Median IT spending per user fell to $6,667 from the previous year's $7,397, according to Computer Economics. This represents a 6.2% reduction, consistent with the fact that IT managers were supporting an increasing number of users without corresponding increases in IT spending. IT spend continued to decline in 2009 and uncertainty and caution is still prevalent in 2010.

Take off with OKRs! How do monumental feats of achievement like landing on the moon occur? It all begins with inspiration. Someone pointed at the largest visible object in the sky and said, “we’re going there”. Next comes the strategy—countless teams planned and executed their contribution, measuring progress along the way. Your company is probably not going to have the 400,000 engineers, scientists, and technicians who helped accomplish the moon landings, and you may not be able to point at the moon to inspire. But you can make the seemingly impossible happen with a process called Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Whatever your version of landing on the moon, this book is designed to help you get there. It’s a resource for managers at all levels to implement the company-wide objectives established by leadership. We’ve included details for working with every employee so that they have measurable objectives that impact the entire company each quarter of the year.

Metal 3D printing is revolutionizing the manufacturing process. Complex shapes, enhanced functional properties and lightweighting are some of the unique benefits delivered by additive manufacturing (AM). While there is plenty of information about printing techniques, materials and hardware, a critical element is rarely mentioned: the need for an integrated software solution for metal additive manufacturing. It takes more than a 3D CAD model and a good printer to get a successful print. Metal AM software handles all preparation and optimization actions that are required for a printed part to meet the desired CAD model specifications. This ebook provides an overview of the preparation and optimization process for AM, explains the importance of software to the profitability of any additive manufacturing business and suggests what to look for when researching AM software solutions.

Investment casting is a precise manufacturing methodology that delivers value across industries, from mechanical, automotive and aerospace parts to intricate dental work, jewelry and sculpture. For centuries the trade-off for smooth and accurate investment casted parts has been high costs and long casting pattern lead times. Now the evolution of parts is accelerating dramatically in many industries resulting in shorter product life cycles and lower volumes of casted parts between cycles. Waiting for tooling for obsolete parts for aging aircraft also mean delays for aircraft to be repaired, costing time and money. Demand for faster foundry production is increasing in all industries and foundries need to be ready to respond. To find out how 3D Sysytems can help your business, download this eBook today.
