The hybrid cloud has been heralded as a promising IT operational model enabling enterprises to maintain security and control over the infrastructure on which their applications run. At the same time, it promises to maximize ROI from their local data center and leverage public cloud infrastructure for an occasional demand spike. Public clouds are relatively new in the IT landscape and their adoption has accelerated over the last few years with multiple vendors now offering solutions as well as improved on-ramps for workloads to ease the adoption of a hybrid cloud model. With these advances and the ability to choose between a local data center and multiple public cloud offerings, one fundamental question must still be answered: What, when and where to run workloads to assure performance while maximizing efficiency? In this whitepaper, we explore some of the players in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and hybrid cloud, the challenges surrounding effective implementation, and how t

• When it comes to the cloud, most businesses have moved from wait-and-see to a "how do we make it happen now?" approach. • But the complexities of moving valuable content from legacy systems to the cloud is still a daunting challenge. That's why some businesses are putting off the move even though they're painfully aware of the limitations of legacy infrastructure like network shares, enterprise content management systems and general purpose file servers. • The good news is the upside of migrating away from legacy infrastructure to a Cloud Content Management platform is far greater than the effort to get there. All you need is a plan. • Our new eBook, From legacy infrastructure to the cloud: A migration journey in 5 steps, gives you a clear, methodical process for migrating your organization to a Cloud Content Management solution.

Australian businesses have long been recognised as leaders in the adoption of cloud services and the migration of core infrastructure to cloud platforms. Yet as ambitious ‘cloud-first’ programs are executed, performance and complexity issues have led many organisations to embrace the middle ground – a hybrid IT solution combining public cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Fast-growing hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platforms are increasingly being recognised as an ideal enabler for this strategy, with a software-based design that combines robust computing infrastructure with a high degree of centralisation, integration, flexibility, and analytics-based monitoring and manageability. Read how companies such as Beam Suntory have redefined enterprise architecture and learn more about the way an integrated hyperconverged infrastructure can help you build the right infrastructure for the future.

Asian ICT infrastructure investment is exploding as businesses review and modernise their data-centre architectures to keep up with the service demands of a growing and increasingly sophisticated population. Demand for cloud services, particularly to support big-data analytics initiatives, is driving this trend. Frost & Sullivan, for example, believes the Asia-Pacific cloud computing market will grow at 28.4 percent annually through 2022. Despite this growth, many businesses are also rapidly realising that public cloud is not the best solution for every need as they do not always offer the same level of visibility, performance, and control as on-premises infrastructure. This reality is pushing many companies towards the middle ground of hybrid IT, in which applications and infrastructure are distributed across public cloud and self-managed data centre infrastructure. Read about Medical company Mutoh and how it took advantage of the latest technology.

Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore (TMLS), an established general and life insurance firm, and subsidiary of the first insurance company in Japan, Tokio Marine Holdings, envisioned an e-services portal to improve user experience by providing a single platform for all customer interactions. For its infrastructure and environment development, the insurer engaged the professional managed security and managed public cloud services of Rackspace, to help with the optimization of its Azure cloud platform, as well as to ensure that the migration is compliant to Singapore’s strict regulations on public cloud use by financial services institutions. The new portal that went live recently had Rackspace instrumentally involved in its building, running, managing and optimizing for the Azure cloud, including a best-practice infrastructure design with the latest resiliency and security features. Noble Group needed to revamp its IT approach to support its technology and global business, which had in-house apps spread across 1,000 different servers around the world. Having worked with Rackspace previously, it had confidence in Rackspace’s expertise in IT transformation, and decided to take up its managed public cloud services for Microsoft Azure, and professional services for cloud migration, performance and scalability. Yet, this resulted in greater gained cost-savings and increased agility, as Noble moved its massive workloads to the Azure cloud with round-the-clock expertise from Rackspace. This proved to be a wise choice. To adapt to Noble Group’s fast changing business model, Rackspace needed to migrate 60 percent of its resources from on-premises infrastructure to Azure, following eight months of planning. At the end of the cloud migration, Noble Group successfully reduced the 2,000 servers from its infrastructure to just 200 servers.

IT transformation is more than a one-time migration of applications to the cloud, because the cloud isn’t a destination in itself. Successful migration is the start of an ongoing process of evolving your applications to take advantage of new native capabilities, as they become available on your chosen cloud platform. This e-book illustrates the iterative process of cloud adoption by following the IT transformation journey of a fictitious company, Mercurial Footwear, in its adoption of Microsoft Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). The various stages of this transformation — from a simple lift-and-shift to the cloud to leveraging cutting-edge technologies like containers and serverless computing — are typical of the process that Rackspace helps its customers to navigate through. With step-by-step explanations, the e-book will provide you with insights into the way cloud architecture evolves, to help you to better take advantage of the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) features most re

The less you hear about your building’s network, the better. Enterprise networks rarely make the news unless the news is bad—and an unplanned outage is about as bad as it gets. In 2017, a tech’s typo at one of the world’s largest cloud services providers took a large swath of servers offline for four agonizing hours. According to one estimate, it cost S&P 500 companies $150 million—and U.S. financial-service companies $160 million—in lost revenue. Of course, the financial hit is just one aspect of an outage. The true cost also includes lost productivity and damage to your reputation. As our reliance on ITC infrastructure increases, the cost of an unplanned outage will only go up. >
